For most people, the word “Broadway” conjures up images of the bustling New York street, iconic posters illuminated by bright lights, and an endless queue of people waiting outside the hallowed theater doors. What lies beyond those doors is a world populated by colorful characters, memorable music, and stories that stay with the audience long after they have left the Great White Way.

One song can encapsulate the deepest emotions of the human experience, from the highest highs to the lowest lows. When the curtain falls, the audience leaves the theater with inspiration and a greater understanding of their fellow man. What a gift this experience provides us with! Yet, due to the high cost of tickets and travel, this experience is not accessible to all.

Luckily for Broadway fans in the Sandhills, the Moore Philharmonic Orchestra will host their spring concert, “A Broadway Revue,” an admission-free evening of highlights from iconic musicals, at Pinecrest High School’s Robert E. Lee Auditorium, Friday, May 24, at 7 p.m. Selections from “Wicked,” “The King and I,” “The Music Man,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and more will grace the stage, as well as an original arrangement of the “West Side Story” score by world-renowned pianists Paul Chandley and Sophia Pavlenko.

Additionally, the annual Moore Philharmonic Orchestra scholarship competition winners will be announced during the performance. After enjoying the show-stopping musical numbers, check out the array of Broadway-inspired concert posters in the lobby!

The Moore Philharmonic Orchestra comprises student musicians and mentors from various backgrounds — some of whom have graced the stages of Broadway themselves. What they all have in common is a love of music and the desire to see the performing arts flourish in Moore County. Through its free concert series and scholarship programs, MPO hopes to inspire new generations of musicians for years to come.

The Moore Philharmonic Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) organization. For more information, visit www.mporchestra.com.
